Holiday Fun

Last week was full of family, food, and fun!

We were so glad that our parents, grandparents, and my sibs could come share a delicious Thanksgiving meal with us. We have plenty to be thankful for, that's for sure!

Evan looks for left overs.

Ryan uses Jordyn for a pillow.

We went to a Christmas tree farm to cut down our own tree. That was a first for us. Ryan loved pushing the cart around. We ended up with a small-ish Fraser Fir.

We decorated the tree that evening. Ryan was a great, speedy helper. Matching pjs from Nana.

As the week of special time with extended family drew to a close, Ggpa had an opportunity to hold Evan for a bedtime bottle.

Look Who's Walking

It's just a matter of time...

Meijer Horse

For those of you who do not have the luxury of living near a Meijer, it is a superstore that carries groceries, household items, clothes, and pretty much everything else.

We stopped in at one while in DesPlaines, IL last month. We were with my brothers and Christine. The horse is free to ride, so I put Evan on it. He LOVED it!!

(In contrast, Ryan SCREAMED his brains out when I tried to put him on the horse!)

Cushions

A new favorite activity for Ryan. He enjoys dismantling the couch and playing with cushions almost as much as he enjoys making "lines" of cars. So far, he makes hills with the cushions, cozy spots, drum sets, and forts.

(I helped him build this, though I'm sure he'll be able to do it himself soon.)

Halloween 2010

We were debating on whether to take the boys the the Safety Zone (Parked cars pass out candy from their trunks, keeping kids off streets which is safer, I suppose. Also, the Safety Zone is non-scary.) or to do traditional neighborhood door-to-door trick-or-treating. We decided, for better or worse, on the Safety Zone.

The best part of the Safety Zone were all the emergency vehicles parked, distributing treats. Ryan LOVED this.

He even got to "drive" the firetruck!

Right off the bat, I found it odd that we had to wait in this line for at least 20 minutes to get to the parked cars/candy. I mean, who waits in line to trick-or-treat?

Finally, we got to the cars. Everyone was really friendly. People even decorate their trunks. But the line was moving slowly; it was quite cold; the boys were getting tired. So we bailed on the cars about a third of the way through.

We were home by 7pm and neighborhood trick-or-treating was going on until 7:30pm, so we light up our jack o'lantern, turned on our lights, and even stood outside. NOT ONE person came by. We even saw a couple groups literally pass our house. Do we have an invisible house? Do we stink? Is our candy nasty? Who can resist these cute babies? Next year, I think we will try trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, the old-fashioned way.

At least we had a few minutes to take some cute pictures of our little ones who were not disappointed, which is really what it's all about anyway.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Halloween Eve

On Halloween Eve, St. Joseph advertised trick-or-treating in the downtown area from 3 - 4:30. Disappointingly, by the time we got there at 4pm, all the businesses were done giving out candy. Perhaps everyone got there early and they ran out? I don't know. But don't advertise that it goes until 4:30 if it actually goes until the candy runs out. Luckily, the Curious Kids Museum was open for free that evening and they were giving out candy throughout the place. There were a lot of cool exhibits, all hands-on and interactive. Halloween Eve was saved!!

Our little pumpkin - Evan is so cute in crowds. He gets really serious as he takes it all in.

Ryan goes down the volcano slide at the Curious Kids Museum.

Ryan loved the animal clinic room.

Evan and I sit and take in the museum chaos as Ryan and Burke explore.

Burke's First St. Joseph Concert

I have rarely, if ever, done a blog post that has NOT ONE picture of Ryan and/or Evan. I had to make an exception this time. Last Thursday was Burke's first concert as the director of the St. Joseph High School Orchestra. It was amazing. It was a great program, the orchestra was well-rehearsed and in tune, Burke's conducting looked effortless and musical. I was so proud. Burke received many accolades.

Okay...I must at least mention the boys.

Ryan really enjoys Burke's concerts. He calls conducting motions "work" because that's what Dada does at work. He loves clapping at the end of the pieces. He's always enjoyed listening to instrumental music. So, he was just as pleased as can be. This time he picked up on Burke's bowing and speaking into the mic and now imitates that at home, in addition to his ongoing imitations of conducting and playing the violin. He made it through 5 songs before he got a tad too wiggly.

I was able to feed Evan (discreetly) and he was pretty chill for most of it. He squawked a bit here and there, but he's just a little guy, so it was fine.

I was pretty proud of myself for getting the boys to an evening concert and surviving with flying colors. Not only did I survive, I was able to enjoy the music, which I haven't been able to do since Ryan was born.
We have a couple awesome boys!

Carving Pumpkins

Last Wednesday, we finally got around to carving our pumpkin.

The boys check out the inside as Burke cuts off the top.

Ryan reaches in, and as you can see, he seems to be grossed out by the texture. His bare hand did not enter that pumpkin again.

He did take a couple swipes at the pumpkin guts with the scraper tool, but this activity was a bit messy and Ryan is not a fan of mess.

Evan, on the other hand, could not keep his hand out of the pumpkin guts bowl.

He was throwing it all around the room.

Ryan much preferred to draw on a smaller pumpkin. (I took his shirt off to avoid marker mess on clothing.)
