Glenn, MI

In the middle of June, we spent a few getaway days with my family at a house in Glenn, MI - a tiny town near Fennville, not too far from Saugatuck. The house was a short walk from Lake Michigan. We arrived in time to celebrate my Mom's 66th birthday, which also happened to be Father's Day.

Burke, Steve, and I went down to the beach to catch the tail end of sunset and to do some star gazing. Venus (center) appeared first. Jupiter (left of center) was visible soon after. It was a peaceful experience, and nice to hang with Steve. We had some good existential talks, which I always enjoy.

It was great to spend time with Joey, Christine, and Caleb. But alas, they had to head back to Chicago midweek to go back to work. Before they left, we snapped a couple more cute cousin pictures.

Sherman's Dairy Bar is on the must list if you're in South Haven.

Steve really dislikes being photographed, but I asserted that this massive "double scoop" was too notable to not have photo documentation.

My aunt carol also stayed at the house for a couple days. It's always nice to see her! She brought her Boston terrier Billy. I thought this picture of Billy was adorable.

Big news, before heading home, Evan lost his third tooth!!

Thanks to Mom & Dad and Steve for arranging the house. And Burke to doing a lot of cooking. We had a enjoyable, relaxing time. Lots of memories.

June 6

Evan graduated from car seat to booster seat.

Last year, I resorted to bribing them to stay focused on picking. The bribery did not work, by the way. But this year, they were very helpful picking machines. What a difference a year makes! We had enough for Burke to make his famous strawberry-chocolate pie, and we enjoyed fresh strawberries for over a week.

Watching their pure joy as they ran through the sprinkler was good for my soul.

June 16

Ryan and Evan are clocking reading minutes for our local library's summer reading program. One of their prizes included these super hero masks, which they colored magnificently. That led to putting on capes and playing super heroes. I'd call that success! Thanks, Lincoln Township Public Library.

June 21

We are spending as much time at the beach as schedules and weather permit.

June 20

We participated in Alex's Duck Duck Run 5K and 1K Fun Run for kids. Here's an adorable picture of Burke and Evan running the 1K together. Burke reports that Evan ran the entire time. Ryan meant to run, but this event happened at the same time as his sore throat/fever. He was recovering, but didn't feel up to running. Maybe next year.

Alex is a little boy (about Ryan's age) who died of cancer at age five. His family is deeply rooted in our community, and the local show of on-going support for his family and the cause of raising fund for childhood cancer research is inspiring. We were happy to be a part of such an uplifting, well-organized event.

Burke also ran the 5K and came in 12th in his age bracket. Not too shabby. I love this picture because Ryan's in the bottom corner cheering Dada on as he is finishing his run.

Doesn't get much cuter than this!
